Any suggestions, help, etc. would be greatly appreciated
Meh, it sucks when you work a long time on one of these things and when made into an icon, it just doesn't really look that good. I had a couple of other images that I used for reference for the redrew. Mainly the cover of the dvd, which has a similar pose, but was different enough that I couldn't use it, but was a good guide. The dvd cover image is "ugly" compared to this, so whatever...
Anyway, I started watching Le Chevalier d'Eon and I really liked it, thought this source needed to be made into an icon and there you go. The anime is about d'Eon de Beaumont, a noble detective during the reign of Louis XV. He was an infamous cross dresser. In the anime, instead of being a cross dresser, he instead becomes possessed by the soul of his dead sister, whose murder he's investigating (these aren't spoilers, that's the premise of the show
). Anyway, fun stuff
I know what you mean, it's so much work for so little satisfaction. I have a hard time with not going overboard on the details. The colored lineart is really great, hitomi.
Yeah, it's a crap shoot (for me at least). Sometimes it works so well, but other times... But I should have known, when I started it, I thought to myself that I didn't think that a full source would work that well. But it's such a cool pose, but mainly because of the look on his face, that wouldn't be able to be captured in 80x80, since you can't get close up. I may draw out the sword so I can get a close up of his face, but the sword took the longest time
I think it looks great.
